Security on Blip

Updated March 18, 2025

Some files are too important to risk—when sending your personal memories, creative work, or business documents, you need to know they’ll reach the right person safely. That’s why Blip is built for security from the ground up, giving you a safer, more private way to share.

Your files travel securely

Blip doesn’t store your files on a cloud server or leave them sitting on public web links. Instead, it transfers data through encrypted tunnels between devices, ensuring only you and the recipient can access the files.

Whenever possible, Blip connects devices directly over your local network or the internet. If a direct connection isn’t possible, the transfer is securely routed through our high-speed relay servers.

All files are encrypted in transit with the latest TLS 1.3 protocol, protecting data against eavesdropping and tampering. And when devices can connect directly, we take security a step further with mutual TLS (mTLS), which adds an extra layer of verification between devices.

You’re in control

Everyone on Blip signs in with a verified email, so you always know who you’re sharing with. If you’re unsure whether someone is on Blip, just type their full email address into the search bar—if they’re not already using Blip, you’ll get an option to invite them.

Blip gives you control over who can find and send files to you. You can adjust your visibility in search, ensuring you’re only discoverable by people who know you. And if someone you don’t recognize tries to reach out, you can block them permanently.

We’ve also built protections against spam and abuse, so you don’t have to worry about being bombarded with unwanted file transfers.

Your privacy matters

We collect only what’s necessary to make Blip work smoothly. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t read your files.
